Sophia and Sophonie were born prematurely at home 3 weeks before the clinic in Forêt des Pins opened for service in 2016. Hearing about the new clinic open relatively near their home, their parents brought the babies in for help the 2nd week that we were open. They were both tiny and not breastfeeding well. Babies and parents were supported with supplementary formula and feeding education, and as they gained weight and strength they were able to transition to solely breastfeeding.
The girls came to the clinic today for mild ailments. They are now 5 years old and generally very healthy kids. Praise God for such a wonderful outcome for these previously fragile girls!
16 month old Widna met criteria to be discharged from our acute malnutrition program this week. She began treatment in November after being diagnosed and made steady progress in gaining weight, muscle, and healthy fat stores.
Widna joins 11 other young children at our facility who have been healed of malnutrition this year! Praise God for their restored health and the resources to aid them on their roads to recovery!
Today after seeing patients, our team practiced typing on a laptop in preparation for us to implement an electronic medical record system. We are so proud of everyone for their willingness to learn new skills and improve how healthcare is delivered in the Foret des Pins area.

Today our team welcomed this little girl into the world. She is the largest baby born at the clinic since opening, weighing 4.3 kg (9.4lbs). She has two older sisters that will take care of her and mom as they recover from the birthing process. We wish them well and look forward to seeing her grow up as she follows up for vaccines and other care.
It is a pleasure to work with people that are committed to the success of AHA's mission. Scarlette Dupelor was inspired to become a nurse after witnessing many people suffer and die from cholera after the 2010 earthquake and felling unable to help. Scarlette graduated nursing school in 2017 and came to work in Foret des Pins in 2018. She now leads our vaccination and malnutrition programs. We are so thankful to have her as a part of our team!
AHA believes that achieving our mission is best accomplished through empowering national healthcare professionals, and we love being able to provide steady employment to those on our staff.
